“Hindsight Is 20/20”
History of the Chapter
The framework for what would become the Southern Michigan Graduate Chapter began to be laid in 2010, when Fellowmen Floyd Brantley and Christopher Smith saw the need for an expanded presence of Groove in Southeast Michigan. With the unique needs of the City of Detroit and its unique place as being the largest majority Black city in the nation, our goals of undergraduate growth and community activism and service align perfectly with our international goals overall.
On August 22, 2020, at 4:48 pm at the International Conclave (held virtually due to the pandemic), the Southern Michigan Graduate Chapter (SoMich) was officially chartered to fulfill the objectives of the Fellowship in the Great Lakes Region. Fellowmen Diamond Greer, Loomy Danso, William Sanders, Floyd Brantley, and Chris Smith, were the charter members of the chapter.
Since August, our chapter has doubled in size from its initial five members to ten and looks to expand Groove even further by establishing undergraduate and graduate chapters throughout the region.
